Jolie, indeed - with her sails back-lit by the low sun.

Jolie Brise had taken part in the previous week's Tall Ships Race and then joined in the regatta at Greenwich. My photo was taken at about 5.15pm, a couple of hours after the Parade of Sail at the close of the Greenwich celebrations. She was heading down river in company with (amongst others) 'Eda Frandsen', 'Pelican of London' and 'Tenacious'.

Jolie Brise was built as a pilot cutter in Le Havre in 1904, but is famous for her long career as an ocean racer. Among an extraordinary list of victories, she won the inaugural Fastnet race in 1925 and the transatlantic Tall Ships Race in 2000.

Her present owners are Dauntsey's School, in Wiltshire.
