Coygen Quarry entrance
Coygen Quarry entrance
The entrance to this large quarry is at the bottom of a lane and almost at sea level. I would appear to have been worked for a very long time as there is an old tramway and quay associate with it to the east. The quarry raises questions as to why there should be a limestone quarry in an area where all the other visible rock is of old red sandstone age. The answer is that a fault has brought the limestone to the surface at this point.
