'Down' stone train, north of Ram Alley, Wiltshire
The train is headed by a Class 66 locomotive number 66016 built in North America. The train is taking empty aggregate wagons back to the limestone quarries in the Mendips. Several of these trains run on the line between the quarries and London where most of the aggregate is used in roadstone plants near Hayes. These trains are operated by DB Schenker Rail (UK) who took over the former English, Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS) in 2007. The once privatised railway company is thus now back in State hands, not our State but that of Germany who own Deutsche Bahn AG, the parent company of DB Schenker.
