Path by Slapton Sands
The coast path crosses to this inland side of the A379 just around here, and it is on this side that it officially spends most of its time while running alongside Slapton Ley. This is because, quite apart from tidal considerations, walking along the shingle beach for nearly four kilometres is very tiring, and the sparse vegetation at the top of the beach would be very vulnerable to innumerable feet. The path shown here provides very easy walking and the vegetation is much better established. The ironical consequence of this is that, while it's only a short distance from the sea, you can't see the sea from the coast path.
