Salmon Viewing Centre, Philiphaugh
The building dates from the 1850s when it housed machinery for threshing grain, generally oats, powered by the large water wheel on the far side of the sawmill out of shot to the left. Nowadays it is a visitor attraction with video links to underwater cameras showing salmon and trout in the nearby Ettrick Water, where the fish leaping up the cauld can be quite a spectacle.
