Stoney Street: Nottingham legends
Stoney Street: Nottingham legends
On the left, on the front of The Old Angel Inn, is the face of the novelist Alan Sillitoe ("Once a rebel, always a rebel, and it's best to be a rebel"), and on the end of the building on the other corner of Woolpack Lane a public art project celebrating various Nottingham legends, among them Robin Hood, the bare-knuckle boxer Bendigo, the actresses Samantha Morton and Su Pollard, the singer-songwriter Jake Bugg and, amusingly conflated as Byron Clough, the romantic poet and the Derby County and Nottingham Forest football manager Brian Clough. At going-to-work time on a fine September morning sunlight was bright and shadows deep.
