Croydon: St George's Walk shopping centre
St. George's Walk is a 1960s shopping centre whose construction was made possible by demolition and widening along Croydon's High Street: the Greyhound pub, long the terminus of bus and tram routes, was demolished at this time. Unlike Croydon's other shopping malls it has not embedded itself in the life of the town and has a consistently tired, second-rank feel to its retail offering. At the time of photographing it, radical redevelopment and rebuilding had been under discussion for some years.
