The Saxon Shore Way near High Halstow
The Saxon Shore Way near High Halstow
The Saxon Shore Way follows Kent's ancient coastline, which in many places is now miles inland. The Saxon Shore Way is named after the line of historic fortifications that defended the Kent coast at the end of the Roman era. It is 160 miles long and runs from Gravesend to Hastings.

Here it is just north of High Halstow as it heads for Decoy Hill Road on its way to Fenn Street and then on to the south side of the Hoo Peninsula near Hoo St Werburgh. Although this field looks benign enough it can be like a swamp after wet weather.
