The line, run by the Great Eastern Railway opened 29.7.1914 and closed 12.9.1966 under British Railways (Eastern Region)
The Aldeburgh branch measured 8.5 miles in length from Saxmundham on the East Suffolk main line. This part of the line was saved for the use of Sizewell nuclear power station and the transportation of nuclear waste and other radioactive commodities.
