Rhossili Bay
Rhossili Bay
A much photographed view of the superb beach below Rhossili village. Rhossili Down rises steeply to the right with a low cliff at its base. The photo is taken from the top of carboniferous limestone cliffs at Rhossili village, the same rock reappearing at the far end of the bay. Rhossili Down is made of the much older Old Red Sandstone which forms the highest ground hereabouts. The low cliff is composed of glacial till, which provides the stones for the head of the beach, which is largely marine sand washed ashore by strong currents.
