Old church of St. Mary the Virgin
Old church of St. Mary the Virgin
Once the town's parish church, it was closed in 1826 when a new church, St. Cuthbert's, was built across town. The old church fell into serious disrepair, but The Friends of St. Mary's in 2004 began work to preserve what remained - and a fine job they have done.
