Derelict building on the Greenock Cut
The path follows the side of the watercourse (the Cut); both cross the NS2373 : Hole of Spango (the gorge of a burn, visible behind the ruin) at this point, so path and watercourse must make some sharp turns here in order to remain level.

See NS2373 : Derelict building on Greenock Cut for an earlier and closer view of the ruin, and LinkExternal link for the same contributor's article about the Greenock Cut itself.

For a couple of more distant views, to provide some context, see NS2373 : Derelict building on the Greenock Cut and NS2373 : The Cut meets the Hole of Spango.
Greenock Cut
The Greenock Cut is an aqueduct built in the 19th century to convey water from the reservoir of Loch Thom to Greenock, for drinking water and for powering local industries. The Cut opened in 1827 and its engineer was Robert Thom. In 1845 it was supplemented by another aqueduct, the Kelly Cut, which linked Kelly Reservoir to the start of the Greenock Cut. The Cut was superseded by a tunnel in 1971 and is now a designated Ancient Monument. For more background and photographs please see the article by Thomas Nugent
