The War Memorial in Clayton Park
This large war memorial is at the south east corner of Clayton Park, adjacent to Ashton New Road and Clayton Hall Road. It was unveiled on Saturday, 20th August 1922 (LinkExternal link excerpt from report in Manchester Guardian). The cenotaph, which is some 26 feet high, is raised up steps, and is four square, the names of the dead, who number 230, being placed on panels on the sides.
