Cawston, St Agnes: rood screen from the chancel
Cawston, St Agnes: rood screen from the chancel
Looking west towards the 15th century wooden screen that separates nave from chancel. The original rood (crucifixion) figure was destroyed, like most, in the Reformation, but the screen is recognised as one of the finest remaining of its kind. See TG1323 : St Agnes' church - rood screen doors for a detail.
St Agnes, Cawston
One of many 15th century village churches in Norfolk, this one is notable for the height of its tower, the carved wooden angels in the roof, and its particularly well preserved painted rood screen. The chancel is even earlier, 13th century. Listed grade 1 (list entry number 1263465).
