A misty September evening, Halstow Marshes (2)
The view west is misty, but in the previous few minutes fog had begun to roll in from the east across St Mary's Marshes (behind the camera) and it seemed a good idea to get back to my car . . .

Talk of an airport in this area seems to have gone away for the while - but to me it seems folly to imagine that these marshes could ever be a viable airport site. Mists and fogs are a fact of life for much of the year, and nothing short of draining the entire Thames Estuary will change that.

The willows and poplars are growing close to an arm of the Decoy Fleet. The old duck decoy itself is perhaps 350m ahead - traces can be seen quite plainly in the satellite imagery.
