Newark Castle
Newark Castle
Seen from Trent Bridge. The original timber castle was founded in the mid 12th century and rebuilt in stone towards the end of the century. Dismantled in the 17th century after the English Civil War, it was restored, first in the 1840s and then by Newark corporation which bought the site in 1889.
