Locomotive shed
Locomotive shed
Stone and setts produced at Brundrit's East Quarry descended to a working level at 290m where there were workshops and a locomotive shed. Wagons bound for the inclines to the Penmaen Mill were moved by a De Winton 'coffee-pot' steam locomotive which was light enough to be exchanged by haulage on the inclines when necessary. The remains of one, "Penmaen" of 1878, lie outside her shed, which is provided with an essential water tank, water being a rare commodity up here - except as rain, of course. The historic lines of this quarry were all of three feet gauge.
