The Judges' Lodgings Town House 15 Castle Hill Lancaster
The house, forecourt, steps, gate piers, gates and railings are all Grade I Listed. Built around 1625 for Thomas Covell and incorporating parts of an older building. Extended and altered 50 years later and then again in the early 19th century it was restored in 1975. Thomas Covell was 6 times mayor of Lancaster and Keeper of Lancaster Castle for 48 years. The house was used as the Judges' Lodgings at the time of the Assizes between 1828 and 1975 when it was taken over by the Lancashire County Museums Service.
Covell Cross is Grade II Listed and built by Austin and Paley in 1903 to celebrate the 1902 coronation of King Edward VII.
