Former Masomic Hall 74 Church Street Lancaster
Former Masomic Hall 74 Church Street Lancaster
A Grade II Listed building on the site of the late 17th century Queens Head Inn, it was converted into this typical 19th century masonic hall by Lancaster architects Paley & Austin in 1884/5. The balance of the 17th century building was demolished to make way for a new dining hall in about 1914. The adjacent uninspiring 72 Church Street replaced two buildings as an extension to the lodge in 1958 and were converted to student accommodation and detached from the lodge in 2011/2. The Freemasons moved out in 2006 and it stood empty until September 2012 when it was opened as the Church Street Chop House following renovation.
