Shear Zone in Gabbro
Shear Zone in Gabbro
These rocks are gabbro, which is a rich in iron and magnesium and low in silica, formed by slow crystallisation deep down in the crust of the Earth. This particular face is of interest to geologists because it contains a zone where the rocks have been stretched and sheared by movements in the crust of the Earth.
