SDJR No 88 at Arley
Blue liveried 2-8-0 no 88, one of the freight locomotives built by the Midland Railway for use on the tortuous Somerset and Dorset route over the Mendips between Bath and Bournemouth. As Ivo Peters' wonderful photographs of the 1950s and 1960s show, the 2-8-0s were often pressed into service on passenger duties during the summer months, so a few Mark 1 coaches at 25 mph on the Severn Valley at the 2014 Autumn Gala should not have taxed the old girl too much.
