Pen-dinas Quarry
Pen-dinas Quarry
Abandoned levels at the western side of Pen-dinas Quarry show how far the quarrying has proceeded in the 'modern' era. Since the advent of highly-mechanised production in the 1930s the entire summit of Penmaen Mawr has been removed and the workings have become inverted to form a descending pit. The quarry has been mothballed since 2008, but there is activity and large volumes of rock suitable for armour-stone and coastal defence are stock-piled on the floor.
