SH6969 : Boulder-strewn slope

taken 3 years ago, near to Llyn Anafon [water Feature], Gwynedd, Great Britain

Boulder-strewn slope
Boulder-strewn slope
The level of Llyn Anafon is increased by a low dam, but the true impounding is done by a significant moraine, thus making it a glacial cwm, although it is not bounded by a classically steep head-wall. The nature of the moraine is displayed just below the crest, where it is seen to comprise a chaotic jumble of somewhat angular blocks. In the background the slopes and crags of Llwytmor have a brooding quality as shadow and patches of sun rush across the landscape.
