The Inner Ward of Kidwelly Castle
The Inner Ward of Kidwelly Castle
The oldest part of the castle is the centre square with round towers at each corner. This is now called the Inner Ward, which distinguishes it from the curved Outer Ward that was eventually built around it.
This view shows all four towers of the Inner Ward as seen from the point where the top of the outer wall meets the south gatehouse.
The tower to the left in the foreground is the only one of the four with internal structures remaining. It is possible to walk up a spiral staircase and emerge out on the rooftop.
