This dike, like hundreds of others in The Fens has a dual purpose. In the summer water is extracted, under licence, for crop irrigation and during wet periods it is an essential part of the drainage system.
This dike flows north into South Drove Drain which flows to Pode Hole near Spalding where the water is then pumped by this pumping station LinkExternal link into Vernatt's Drain which in turn flows into The River Welland via a sluice at Surfleet Seas End, see LinkExternal link
