SS7249 : Lynmouth Flood Memorial Hall

taken 3 years ago, near to Lynmouth, Devon, Great Britain

Lynmouth Flood Memorial Hall
Lynmouth Flood Memorial Hall
Built on the site of the former lifeboat station which was one of the buildings destroyed in the catastrophic flood of August 15th and 16th 1952 which killed 34 people. 28 bridges and more than 100 buildings were destroyed or seriously damaged by the flood. Even though I had read about the huge volume of water that descended on Lynmouth, contrasting the placid looking West Lyn and East Lyn rivers today with the 1952 flood heights recorded on nearby buildings was a sombre experience.
