Derby: Old Ilk
Derby: Old Ilk
The Old Silk Mill public house on Full Street. The painted gable end, created by Derby Community Arts, commemorates the 1834 "turn out", when silk workers left their work for four months to protest against the Combination Act and defend their right to form a trade union. A centenary plaque on the nearby Silk Mill reads: "They pioneered the way to freedom. The liberty is yours."
