In grateful remembrance of the magnificent bequest by William Alexander Esqr. of his estate at Woodham Mortimer in the county of Essex "For the benefit behoof and advantage of the poor of the Company of Coopers, London for ever." The Masters, Wardens, and Court of Assistants of the Company have erected this memorial, not only as a tribute of their respect and admiration but also with a view of publickly handing down to future ages so splendid an act of disinterested generosity.
