Bad light stopped play
The floodlights were no longer enhancing natural light, but instead replacing it, making the ball difficult to see in half-light. Those determined spectators who remained until the clouds lifted were rewarded with more play late on the first day of Derbyshire's match with Leicestershire, the final match of the 2014 season. Those who returned for the second and third days saw Derbyshire win by 408 runs to finish fourth in Division 2. The visitors, who last won a four-day match in 2012, again finished bottom of the County Championship.
