Benchmark in Lichfield Road
This benchmark was established in 1851 during the First primary levelling of England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 446.443 feet [136.076 metres] above mean sea level (Liverpool datum). It was included on the Sheffield to Birmingham levelling line and appears on the 1889 OS map. The surveyor's description was "No. 246. Bolt in front of the Roman Catholic Chapel, Sutton Coldfield ; 1.20 ft. above surface." (Public Abstract p.362). The chapel is now offices, at 32 Lichfield Road.
