Aut viam inveniam aut faciam and the year 1910, Lynton
The Latin inscription and the year 1910 are on the wall of Lynton Cinema LinkExternal link which occupies part of a former Methodist Church built in 1910. Aut viam inveniam aut faciam, Latin for
"I will either find a way, or make one" is attributed to Hannibal in reply to his generals who had stated that it was impossible to cross the Alps with elephants. If Hannibal did indeed say that, a Carthaginian talking to other Carthaginians, it would hardly have been in Latin, the language of his greatest enemy the Romans, but in his native tongue, the Punic language.
