WW2 pillbox on the Apley Estate
WW2 pillbox on the Apley Estate
A brick-built pillbox overlooking the eastern end of SO7098 : Apley suspension bridge, taken on a day when the park lands were being used for a series of cross-country races, and the route followed the track down from the main house, down to the bridge, then turned back up the hill. The pillbox is well sited to protect the bridge, but was presumably never used, as the threatened invasion didn't materialise.
