Cider Apples
Cider Apples
This orchard was planted with cider apples between 1937-1943. These trees are therefore 70 years old and still bear heavy crops.During their useful cropping life the fruit was contracted to HP Bulmer of Hereford and the above information is from the planting records maintained in the Bulmers archive. The orchard is now an SSSI of great wildlife value as many of these traditional "standard" trees are now reaching the end of their lives and decaying gracefully. Last winter volunteers planted 100 new trees on standard rootstocks to maintain the traditional landscape of Worcestershire. We are trying to identify the varieties and this year are harvesting the fruit to make "single variety" ciders.
