This square has the southern end of the Dunnerdale fells ridge, which is composed of volcanic tuff. The valley of the River Lickle is a U-shaped glacial valley with a poorly drained floor of glacial deposits, marked 'Liable to Floods' on the 1889 map. Low Moss sits just above it at the foot of the hillside.
The Lickle Valley is in the former Broughton West CP (now in Duddon CP).
This is a desk study based on information from the internet, the OS 1:2500 map of 1889 and the OS 1:25000 map of 2001. Further information, and of course photographs, would be very welcome.
