Kerne Bridge station
Kerne Bridge station
Opened in 1873 with the Ross - Monmouth Railway, Kerne Bridge was never an especially busy station. Timber was the mainstay of the traffic from its goods platform, although livestock and coal were also handled here. The station closed with the cessation of passenger traffic in 1959, and although the line remained in use until 1965, it was effectively a long private siding to the cable factory at Lower Lydbrook.
The station house is now a private dwelling, but was for many years an outdoor activity centre. It's been significantly extended since closure: the original building is the red sandstone building behind the red car.
