The Barnard monument in St Giles Church, Shipbourne
St Giles Church at Shipbourne was rebuilt in 1721-22 and again in 1880-81 at the expense of Edward Cazalet of Fairlawne. It is an estate church at the centre of the village and estate of Fairlawne. The Greensand Way passes through the churchyard on its way to Ightham Mote.

The monument to 1st Lord Barnard dates from 1723 and was erected in his lifetime. It was designed by Gibbs and Pevsner says that "the character of the carving makes it almost certain that the young Rysbrack was the sculptor. It is on a grand scale: Lord and Lady Barnard sit pensively one each side of a large urn on a gadrooned base, and in front of it their daughter reclines... Rather meagre flowers framing the inscription."
