NN8699 : Old meltwater channel, Creag Ghiuthsachan

taken 4 years ago, near to Auchlean, Highland, Great Britain

Old meltwater channel, Creag Ghiuthsachan
Old meltwater channel, Creag Ghiuthsachan
A neat V-shaped channel cuts through the ridge of Carn Ban Beag, in line with a similar channel 1km south under Creag Leathan. It appears to be a glacial meltwater channel, formed by meltwater streams flowing under the glacier. In the foreground is a boggy flat area which was probably a lochan at one time. Loch Ghiuthsachan is out of sight round the corner.
