Pwll Morlais
Pwll Morlais
After the largely dry summer of 2014, Pwll Morlais is encountered by the lone walker and the odd sheep as a rocky hollow with a green floor as vegetation has taken hold in the peaty mud which had settled to the bottom of the pool. The autumn and winter rains, forecast to arrive this next weekend should eventually fill it once again. This fine sinkhole is located at the upper boundary of the Twrch Sandstone ('Basal Grit') where it is overlain by the Bishopston Mudstone (Middle Shale'). The limestone should not be too far below.
