SX8962 : Site of Hollicombe gas works

taken 3 years ago, near to Cockington, Torbay, Great Britain

Site of Hollicombe gas works
Site of Hollicombe gas works
The circular bases of the gasometers remain in place, though the site of the former gas works has been transformed into a park, the work beginning in March 1979. Today, the grassed areas of the park are well kept, but many of the shrubs are overgrown and the nearest tree pictured here is dead. The large tree on the left is a Plane tree, planted on 7th March 1979 by Councillor R.J.C. Coombe, then Mayor of Torbay, to commemorate the beginning of the work creating the park. A plaque recording the event is attached to a large boulder beneath the tree. Detail of plaque: SX8962 : Plaque in Hollicombe Park.
