Houses in Newton on Rawcliffe
Houses in Newton on Rawcliffe
Two brick built houses near the top end of the village street. In this area of good quality limestone and sandstone, brick is a bit unusual on older properties. The house on the left is dated 1883 and is made of a factory brick probably imported to the area by railway. The other house is dated 1807 and is a much finer design with stone quoins. The use of brick here is more likely a fashion statement, brick probably being more expensive than stone at the time of construction.
