The Kelsae Stane
The Kelsae Stane
This 40,000 public sculpture was unveiled in Kelso town square on Monday 14th July 2014. The 20 tonne basalt block was quarried and shaped in Mamallapuram in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu by the sculptor Jake Harvey. Families and individuals from a 10km radius of Kelso were invited to trace the names of their towns, villages and farms on the stone, which were then permanently carved on the four faces of the block. The Kelsae Stane is the first piece of public art to be installed in the town square for 300 years.
