SY6872 : Hydraulic Bag

taken 3 years ago, near to Easton, Dorset, Great Britain

Hydraulic Bag
Hydraulic Bag
The curious black object is a bag made up of two sheets of steel welded together round the edge. Several bags will be inserted into slots cut by the SY6872 : Rock Cutting Machine, and then filled with water at high pressure. This causes the bag to expand, and the extra strain breaks the block of stone neatly away from the quarry face, so no explosive is needed.
