"Untamed" ponies on Holt Lowes
The six resident Dartmoor Ponies (N.B. neither "wild" nor "feral"), are responsible for keeping the vegetation in check. Here they have migrated to the lowest part of Holt Lowes, i.e. the swamp next to the River Glaven, which is where the grass grows best and sweetest.
Ironically one branch of their ancestors was a swamp-dweller, but it is supposed to be the one with the big load-spreading feet. These ponies, with their dinky little hooves, were sinking in up to their hocks at times. Not that it bothered them.
