Bog-trotting pony in the lowest part of Holt Lowes
One of the six resident Dartmoor Ponies responsible for keeping the vegetation in check in this Conservation Area. This pony has migrated to the lowest part of Holt Lowes, i.e. the swamp next to the River Glaven, which is where the grass grows best and sweetest.
Ironically one branch of the ponies' ancestors was a swamp-dweller, but it is supposed to be the one with the big load-spreading feet. This one, with its dinky little hooves, has sunk in up to its hocks. It had become separated from the others, I suspect because of the effort required to extricate itself.
