Land was acquired in 1929 for the municipal Eastern Cemetery, Preston Road. Part of this ground was opened in 1931. The cemetery chapel complex, 1931, by David Harvey, Kingston upon Hull City Architect. Brick with limestone banding and detailing in a Byzantine Revival style. A war memorial featuring a stylised lion is sited in the central porch to the left of the entrance to the cloister. It is inscribed with 'The British Gas Light Co Ltd 1914 1918.
