Telephone exchanges, Sturton
Telephone exchanges, Sturton
Three generations of telephone exchange building. The oldest one, on the right, has been converted to form what may be the smallest dedicated post office building in the country. It opens for just a couple of hours on two days of the week. This function goes back to at least the early 1970s, possibly to when the newest (left hand) exchange was built. With the advent of electronic exchange technology, this building has also become redundant, with just the compact middle building still in use. The telephone kiosk in front of it still currently retains a functioning phone. There is a bench mark LinkExternal link on the front of the middle building.
