Fine Formations
This is a fine array of mountain lee wave clouds, caused by strong winds setting up standing waves over the mountains to the south-west. This creates lenticular or cigar-shaped clouds perpendicular to the direction of the wind. Glider pilots like to get into the upwind edges of wave clouds because the air is rising and can take gliders up to ten times the heeight of the mountains that give rise to the waves.
