St. Peter's Church, Kirkbampton - lepers' squint and aumbry
Two small wooden doors set into the wall of the sanctuary.
The lepers' squint (left) was originally on an external wall of the church, and enabled sufferers to see the priest celebrating mass without entering the building. Also called a dole window, through which alms could be handed out to the needy.
The aumbry (right) was a small safe used to lock up church valuables.
In the forefront is a quilt, part of an exhibition of the craft being held in the church that weekend.
