The crane was built in 1886 by James Taylor of Birkenhead and retired about 1982/3. This view shows the slewing engine with its inverted vertical duplex cylinders of 7" x 10". There are also a larger diagonal duplex hoisting engine and a large vertical boiler. A later visit showed some dismantling of the engines to relieve them of non-ferrous bearings.
