TQ9075 : Garrison Point Fort, Sheerness

taken 9 years ago, near to Sheerness, Kent, England

Garrison Point Fort, Sheerness
Garrison Point Fort, Sheerness
The fort was built in the 1860's, replacing a 17th century fortification. In plan the fort is D-shaped, and it seems to me that - without the 20th and 21st century clutter - it would look not so very different from one of Henry VIII's coastal 'Device Forts': Link

The bitty 20th century additions include the Medway Navigation Service's control tower, and also accommodate a pilot station.
